Deze getallen vertegenwoordigen het percentage goud in de legering. Hoe hoger het getal, hoe hoger het aandeel goud in het product. Het karaatsysteem, dat vaak wordt gebruikt in sieraden, helpt ook bij het schatten van de zuiverheid van goud, waarbij 24K (karaat) puur goud vertegenwoordigt. Het resterende deel bestaat uit andere metalen zoals koper, zink, zilver, platina, palladium of nikkel.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>De prijs van sieraden hangt af van zowel het goudgehalte als het gebruikte legeringsmateriaal.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Ch2>Zilver en platina zuiverheid markering\u003C/h2>\n\n\u003Cp>Net als bij goud wordt de zuiverheid van zilver en platina gemeten in duizendsten, waarbij de standaard markeringen de inhoud van de edelmetalen aangeven.
